The story follows Yoshihiko Takada, a single man in his early thirties who works from home. In his youth, he had strong feelings for his cheerful and kind classmate Honoka Aida, who was admired by many. He confessed his love to her at graduation, but she left for a university in Tokyo before giving him an answer. Years later, after her divorce, Honoka returns to her hometown with her daughter. Her daughter, Sayaka Aida, is a beautiful young woman with long black hair and a striking resemblance to her mother as she was in the past—especially from the time when Yoshihiko had feelings for her. Sayaka and her mother move in next door to Yoshihiko and introduce themselves as his new neighbors. As Honoka is often away on business, Yoshihiko begins looking after Sayaka as a neighborly favor.
